“You’re creating a disturbance.”

Several passengers laughed in disbelief.

The Flight Attendant ignored them.

“If you cannot follow instructions, we can have you removed before departure.”

The aircraft had not yet pushed back.

The door remained attached to the jet bridge.

That made the threat real.

The Black Passenger nodded slowly.

“You can.”

The Flight Attendant looked surprised.

“Yes.”

The Black Passenger continued:

“You can request removal.”

“You can document your reason.”

“And I can respond.”

Her phone vibrated again.

This time, she looked.

One message.

From General Counsel.

She opened it.

Board assembled early. CEO present. Audit committee recommending termination for cause. Waiting for your authorization before formal vote.

Then a second message.

We still need your approval to remove the CEO.

The Black Passenger read it twice.

A tiny smile appeared.

The Flight Attendant noticed.

“What’s funny?”

The Black Passenger placed the phone face down.

“Nothing.”

The Purser looked at the screen before it turned completely away.

He had caught part of the notification.

BOARD… APPROVAL… REMOVE CEO.

His face changed slightly.

The Flight Attendant did not notice.

She held out one hand.

“Gather your belongings.”

The cabin became completely silent.

The Black Passenger did not move.

“Are you removing me from the aircraft?”

“Yes.”

The Purser turned sharply.

“We haven’t made that decision.”

The Flight Attendant looked at him.

“She’s refusing.”

“She refused a seat move.”

“She questioned me.”

The Purser’s voice changed.

“That isn’t the same thing.”

The Flight Attendant stared.

The Black Passenger watched.

Something was finally breaking.

Not the confrontation.

The internal alignment.

The Purser had spent the first several minutes supporting the Flight Attendant because that was easier.

Now too many facts were refusing to fit.

The Black Passenger asked:

“What exactly is the stated safety reason for removing me?”

No answer.

“Have I threatened anyone?”

“No.”

“Touched anyone?”

“No.”

“Raised my voice?”

The Purser looked toward the Flight Attendant.

“No.”

“Refused a lawful safety instruction?”

The Purser hesitated.

“No.”

The Flight Attendant snapped:

“She’s disruptive.”

The passenger livestreaming from Row 4 spoke loudly.

“She’s been sitting there while you people bother her.”

The Flight Attendant turned.

“That’s enough.”

The woman held up her phone.

“There are nineteen hundred people watching.”

The cabin changed.

The Purser stared.

“What?”

“Livestream.”

The Flight Attendant went pale.

The woman continued:

“Actually…”

She looked at the screen.

“Two thousand one hundred.”

Several passengers raised their phones higher.
