Not the same one.
He was older.
A little gray in his beard.
He parked the Lamborghini.
Got out.
A police cruiser pulled into the station.
His body tightened automatically.
Then relaxed.
The officer parked at another pump.
Black female Officer.
Mid-thirties.
She glanced at the Lamborghini.
Then toward him.
For half a second, old memory surfaced.
He watched.
She smiled.
“Nice car.”
He smiled back.
“Thank you.”
She started fueling the cruiser.
That was it.
No suspicion.
No interrogation.
No twist.
He went inside for coffee.
When he returned, the Officer was still there.
She looked toward him.
“You’re the federal guy from that video, aren’t you?”
He sighed.
“Sometimes I wish the internet forgot.”
She laughed.
“Sorry.”
“No problem.”
She hesitated.
“Can I tell you something?”
He nodded.
“That video was in one of our training modules.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“The good version?”
“There’s a bad version?”
“Many.”
She laughed.
Then became serious.
“Our instructor stopped it before your badge came out.”
The Agent looked interested.
“Why?”
“He asked what was wrong up to that point.”
The Agent smiled slowly.
“That’s smart.”
“Then after we answered, he played the badge reveal.”
“And?”
“He said if our opinion changed because of the badge, we hadn’t understood the lesson.”
The Agent looked toward his Lamborghini.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Then:
“Who’s the instructor?”
The Officer gave a name.
The Agent recognized it.
Miller.
The younger Officer from the original stop.
He laughed softly.
Of course.
Miller had remained with the department.
Internal Affairs cleared him of misconduct in the initial stop because he did not participate in force and eventually challenged Calder.
But Miller never accepted that as praise.
He later admitted publicly that he should have intervened sooner.
He transferred to training.
The Agent called him that evening.
Miller answered on the second ring.
“Sir?”
“You’re still calling me sir after six years?”
“Habit.”
“I met one of your officers.”
Miller paused.
“Oh.”
“She said you use the gas-station footage.”
“Only with permission.”
“You have it.”
“Good.”
The Agent leaned against his kitchen counter.
“She said you stop before the badge reveal.”
Miller laughed.
“Ruins the lesson otherwise.”
The Agent became quiet.
“That’s the best thing anyone has done with that video.”
Miller did not answer immediately.
Then:
