“Do not grab me unless you are detaining me.”
The Security Officer stopped.
Passengers reacted.
Someone whispered:
“He's right.”
The Supervisor looked increasingly frustrated.
A gray-haired man wearing a faded veterans cap stepped out of line.
“Can somebody explain what this man actually did?”
The male Security Officer turned.
“Sir, stay out of this.”
The older passenger ignored him.
“He showed documents.”
“Yes?”
The Supervisor responded:
“This is an internal matter.”
The older passenger pointed toward the transfer.
“Not anymore.”
Several passengers nodded.
A woman raised her phone higher.
The Senior Officer looked toward the older passenger.
“Sir.”
The man stopped.
The Senior Officer shook his head subtly.
Do not escalate.
The older man understood.
He stepped back.
The Senior Officer returned his attention to the Supervisor.
“Call the number on the escort authorization.”
The Supervisor frowned.
“What?”
“There is a twenty-four-hour coordination number.”
“Call it.”
The Gate Agent looked at the paperwork.
“I see it.”
The Supervisor glanced at her.
“Don't.”
Everyone heard.
The Senior Officer became completely still.
“Why not?”
The Supervisor immediately corrected himself.
“I mean we’re already using our own verification process.”
The Senior Officer stared.
“The document provides a verification process.”
“We have airline procedures.”
“And your procedure has produced no answer for twenty minutes.”
The Supervisor’s face reddened.
“You do not dictate operational policy here.”
The Senior Officer nodded once.
“Then identify the policy.”
Silence.
People began recording openly.
A young woman near the line said:
“I’m streaming this.”
The Supervisor turned.
“No filming employees.”
She laughed.
“We’re in a public terminal.”
The security officers exchanged a glance.
The Supervisor looked toward them.
“Remove him from the area.”
The male Security Officer immediately reached for the Senior Officer’s arm.
This time his hand closed around the sleeve.
The Senior Officer did not resist.
But his voice changed.
“Take your hand off me.”
The officer maintained his grip.
“Sir, walk.”
The Senior Officer looked down at him.
“I will walk when you state whether I am detained.”
The officer released him.
The female Security Officer quietly asked the Supervisor:
“Is he denied boarding?”
The Supervisor hesitated.
“Yes.”
The Gate Agent looked startled.
“You just canceled him?”
The Supervisor shot her a look.
The Senior Officer caught everything.
“Put that in writing.”
The Supervisor said:
“We don't need to give you anything in writing.”
“You are preventing an official escort from completing transport.”
“You will document why.”
The Supervisor stepped forward.
