The Manager’s cheeks flushed.

The CEO looked toward the female officer.

She was watching the Manager closely.

Then the Manager did something the CEO had not expected.

She reached for the register.

Not toward the phone.

Toward the terminal.

Her fingers moved quickly.

The employee beside her stared.

“What are you doing?”

“Canceling the transaction.”

The CEO’s eyes narrowed.

The Manager pressed several keys.

The employee stepped closer.

“Don’t.”

The Manager snapped:

“Back away.”

The employee did.

The CEO watched the screen.

A refund sequence appeared.

Then another menu.

Not normal.

The Manager entered an override code.

The CEO recognized the structure.

Management refund authorization.

The Manager was trying to reverse the sale.

But something about the sequence felt familiar.

The Internal Audit Director had shown her screenshots two weeks earlier.

Multiple suspicious refunds from this store had been processed through unusual manual overrides.

The CEO looked toward the payment terminal.

Then the Manager’s hands.

The operation shifted instantly.

This was no longer just about discriminatory treatment.

The Manager did not know she had revealed a financial pattern.

The CEO’s hidden microphone captured everything.

The security officer looked at the screen.

“Why are you canceling it?”

“Because I have the right to refuse service.”

The CEO said:

“Let the transaction stand.”

The Manager glared.

“No.”

The CEO looked toward the Sergeant.

“Please note the exact time.”

The Manager stopped.

“What?”

The Sergeant glanced at his watch.

The CEO repeated:

“Please note the time she entered that override.”

The Manager stared.

The Sergeant looked confused.

“Why?”

The CEO turned toward him.

“Because someone is about to ask you for it.”

That was the first moment the Manager became genuinely frightened.

Not suspicious.

Frightened.

She looked toward the entrance.

Nobody there.

The CEO’s phone vibrated inside her handbag.

One vibration.

Prearranged signal.

Corporate Security had heard enough.

The Manager looked back.

“You’re recording us?”

The CEO did not answer.

“Are you?”

The security officer looked toward the CEO.

The police officers did too.

The CEO said:

“Your store has cameras.”

The Manager turned toward the ceiling.

That answer did not satisfy her.

Then the glass front doors opened.

A man in a dark charcoal suit entered.

Corporate Security Investigator.

Two additional corporate compliance employees followed.

The Manager’s face drained.

She knew him.

Everybody in management did.

The Corporate Security Investigator did not look toward the CEO first.

Good discipline.

He walked toward the Sergeant.

Displayed credentials.

“Sergeant.”

“Yes?”

“I’m corporate security for this retail group.”

The Manager stepped forward.

“What are you doing here?”

He ignored her.

“We have an active internal investigation involving transaction manipulation and inventory discrepancies at this location.”

The Sergeant looked toward the Manager.

Then the Black CEO.

Then back.

The Corporate Security Investigator continued.

“We need to preserve the point-of-sale system, security footage, return records, management terminal, and stockroom access logs.”
