The Store Owner tried again.
“She refused to leave.”
The Black Woman spoke.
“You never asked me to leave until after calling police.”
The Store Owner turned.
“You were making staff uncomfortable.”
The Sales Associate’s eyes lifted.
The Black Woman saw.
“Were you uncomfortable?”
The Store Owner snapped:
“Enough.”
The Sales Associate flinched.
That answered another question.
The Black Woman looked toward the Officers.
“I’m not asking you to make decisions about store policy.”
“But I would like the incident number.”
The older Officer nodded.
“Absolutely.”
The Store Owner’s face tightened.
“Is that necessary?”
The Black Woman looked at him.
“Yes.”
He said nothing.
The Officers documented.
No arrest.
No search.
No dramatic handcuffs.
Just names.
Statements.
Time.
Reason for call.
The Store Owner disliked that more than spectacle.
Paper survives.
The Officers left twenty minutes later.
The Black Woman remained.
The Store Owner looked exhausted.
He attempted one final reset.
“Can we start over?”
She looked at him.
“No.”
He swallowed.
“But we can continue.”
That surprised him.
“Continue?”
“Yes.”
“You still want to see the bracelet?”
“No.”
She turned toward the Sales Associate.
“I want to understand what happened before I walked through the door.”
The Store Owner immediately stepped closer.
“Any employee interviews need HR present.”
“Correct.”
“I’ll arrange it.”
“No.”
He stopped.
“Corporate will.”
The Black Woman pulled out her phone.
One message.
No dramatic call.
No shouting.
Flagship assessment escalated. Preserve all client files, CCTV, CRM notes, appointment edits, security calls, employee scheduling, complaint data. External counsel only.
Send.
Then she looked toward the Store Owner.
“Do not delete anything.”
His face changed.
“I wouldn’t.”
“Good.”
She looked at the Sales Associate.
“What’s your name?”
The Sales Associate told her.
The Black Woman nodded.
“You’ll receive an independent interview request.”
The Store Owner said:
“She reports through me.”
The Black Woman looked at him.
“Not for this.”
That afternoon, the store closed three hours early.
