A microphone.

Lights.

The Reporter stepped forward.

The HOA President stopped breathing.

The garage door continued rising until the entire investigative crew became visible.

The Reporter walked onto the driveway holding a microphone.

“Actually, we were hoping you could explain it to us.”

Silence.

The HOA President looked at the Homeowner.

Then at the Reporter.

Then at the camera.

Her confidence collapsed.

Only for one second.

Then training returned.

She smiled.

Not naturally.

“Is this some kind of ambush?”

The Reporter answered:

“We requested an interview last week.”

“I provided a statement.”

“Yes.”

“But today we watched you enter this private driveway and connect your Tesla to the Homeowner’s charger without speaking to him.”

The HOA President looked toward the cable.

Then at the Homeowner.

“He has never objected before.”

The Homeowner laughed in disbelief.

“You never asked.”

The Reporter said:

“Do you have written permission?”

The President ignored the question.

“This program benefits the entire neighborhood.”

“What program?”

“The distributed charging initiative.”

The Reporter opened a folder.

“The city says no such program has been approved.”

The HOA President’s expression changed.

“It is in development.”

The Reporter held up the grant application.

“This document lists six private residential chargers as community-accessible charging assets.”

The President said:

“That language is being mischaracterized.”

“Did the owners consent?”

“We were working through participation agreements.”

“After you submitted the application?”

The HOA President looked toward the camera.

“I’m not discussing incomplete negotiations on somebody’s driveway.”

The Reporter nodded.

“Then one simpler question.”

She pointed toward the Tesla.

“Who gave you permission to charge here today?”

Silence.

The Homeowner said nothing.

The HOA President looked toward him.

Then:

“He has benefited financially from solar incentives.”

The Reporter frowned.

“That wasn’t the question.”

The HOA President’s face hardened.

“You people are trying to make responsible environmental leadership look criminal.”

The Reporter answered calmly.

“We’re asking who pays for the electricity.”

The President pointed toward the Homeowner.

“He does.”

Then immediately realized what she had said.

The driveway became silent.

The Homeowner almost smiled.

The Reporter waited.

“So he pays.”

“And you use it.”

“Without asking.”

The HOA President took a breath.

“This interview is over.”

She moved toward the Tesla.

The Homeowner stepped aside.

Nobody blocked her.

She grabbed the charging connector.

Then stopped.

The charger had locked the connector normally while the active session was engaged.

She pulled again.

Nothing.

The Homeowner said:

“End the session through the screen.”

She glared.

“You locked my car to your property?”

“No.”

“That’s the charger’s standard safety lock.”

“Tap stop.”

For the first time, the scene became almost absurd.

The woman who had spent weeks taking electricity without permission now needed help disconnecting herself from the evidence.

The Homeowner walked toward the wall.

Pressed Stop Charging.
