He looked toward the lounge.

“The only accommodation I accepted was that invitation.”

The supervisor whispered:

“I didn't know.”

The billionaire’s expression hardened.

“That is the problem.”

The supervisor raised his eyes.

“I would never have—”

He stopped.

Too late.

The sentence already existed.

Everyone understood its ending.

I would never have treated you that way if I knew who you were.

The billionaire looked at him.

“You would never have what?”

The supervisor said nothing.

“Shoved me?”

Silence.

“Thrown my documents?”

Silence.

“Told me people in economy seats don't matter?”

The supervisor looked toward the crowd.

“I didn't say—”

A teenager holding a phone spoke from behind the rope line.

“You did.”

Several passengers murmured agreement.

The supervisor turned.

The CEO said:

“Don't.”

He stopped.

The general counsel walked toward the gate agent.

“Are there cameras covering this area?”

“Yes.”

“Preserve everything.”

The airline’s head of security had now emerged from the lounge as well.

He spoke into his radio.

“Lock the video archive for premium check-in, 8:00 through now.”

The airport supervisor looked at him.

“You're preserving footage over a misunderstanding?”

The billionaire finally laughed.

It was the first time.

Not amused.

Almost astonished.

“A misunderstanding.”

The supervisor stepped toward him.

“Sir, please.”

The billionaire’s eyes dropped toward his chest.

The supervisor stopped.

Physical distance suddenly mattered to him.

The billionaire said:

“You put both hands on me.”

“I was trying to control the situation.”

“What situation?”

“You were refusing instructions.”

“What lawful airline policy required me to obey your demand to open my luggage?”

The supervisor had no answer.

“What policy allowed you to refuse executive verification?”

Nothing.

“What policy allowed you to throw my boarding documents?”

Nothing.

“What policy allowed you to shove a passenger?”

Still nothing.

The billionaire nodded.

“That’s what I thought.”

The CEO turned toward the supervisor.

“Badge.”

The man looked at him.

“What?”

“Your company credential.”

“Sir—”

“Now.”

The supervisor stared.

Years of authority sat inside that badge.

Access.

Identity.

Status.

People moved when he displayed it.

Now his hand trembled slightly as he unclipped it.

The CEO took it.

“You are removed from passenger-facing duty pending investigation.”

The supervisor’s face tightened.

“You cannot suspend me based on one passenger’s account.”

The CEO looked around.

“There appear to be approximately forty accounts.”

Phones remained raised.

The supervisor’s mouth closed.

The billionaire said:

“Don't fire him because of me.”

Everyone turned.

The CEO looked surprised.

The supervisor looked hopeful.

The billionaire continued.

“Investigate him because of everyone else.”

Hope vanished.

The billionaire looked toward the gate agent.

“What did he say before I arrived?”

The employee froze.

The supervisor stared at her.

She noticed.

So did the billionaire.

“Look at me.”

She did.

“Not him.”

Her eyes filled slightly.

“What did he say?”

The gate agent took a breath.
